What is an Ingrown Toenail? Pretty explanatory, it is when the edge of your nail grows into the skin surrounding your toes, typically downwards. Other names for ingrown toenail are Onychocryptosis and Unguis incarnates.

Symptoms may be inflammation, redness and constant pain. In some serious cases, it is possible to spread into the bone.
It is not advised to administer any treatments by yourself at home, but do seek advice and help from a Medical Professional when it is to the point where you are unable to trim your ingrown toenail or have extreme pain, swelling, redness, or if you have a fever. Please note: Those with diabetes are at risk for infections, poor blood circulation, and nerve damage in the foot or leg. In this case, please see a health care professional.

Some ways to prevent ingrown toenails are to soften your nail by soaking your foot in warm water. Using a clean sharp nail cutter also helps and trimming straight across the top as opposed to rounding the corners. Also, try not to trim your nails too short as that may cause them to dig into the skin deeper.
