An ingrown toenail is a common problem wherein the side of a toenail starts growing into the soft skin instead of growing over it. This condition usually affects the big toe, and it causes pain, redness, and swelling at the affected site. When the ingrown nail was left untreated, it can because excessively red, and may get infected. Here is a good news – there are some ways to prevent ingrown toenails.
-
Do not remove your cuticles!
The cuticle is a thin layer of tissue riding on the nail plate. It seals between the nail and skin surrounding fingernails in order to prevent bacteria from infected tissues. Do not let your pedicurist trim or cut your cuticles. Cuticles have such an important role!
-
Choose shoes carefully
Try not to wear shoes that squish toes or point your large toe inward. Also, shoes that use non-breathable synthetic materials can easily create a warm and moist environment in the shoes, as a result, it increases the chance of toenail infection.
-
Don’t cut your nail too much
Try to clip toenail straights, rather than creating V-shaped and rounding toenail. Also, be careful not to cut too low.
-
Make a room for your feet
Choose shoes that are wide enough and avoid tight-fitting socks. If you have flat feet, your big toe tend to roll inward when you walk, which increase the pressure on the nails and increase the chance for the toenail to grow inward. In this case, tight socks and shoes will worsen the effect.
Now you all know basics to prevent ingrown toenails! Let your feet have minimal stress and your gorgeous toes will be ready to be exposed!
