There are many foot infections and nail infections that exist but you may not always know if you have one. It is important to know and acknowledge the signs and symptoms. For ingrown nails, the symptoms are usually more obvious and instantaneous.

If you have an ingrown nail you may first start seeing the skin around the nail begin to become red and feel tender. If these symptoms progress for a lengthened period of time then the nail can develop an infection, in addition to the symptoms worsening. The skin will then become more swollen, red, and painful. If it worsens, you may also begin to see a yellow or green pus/fluid ooze out from around the nail. At this point, the area will become extremely uncomfortable, painful, and the nail will have grown into the skin.

If you would like to prevent any of the above from happening, it is important to be aware of the signs. If you see that the skin around your nail is becoming red, tender, and/or swollen, this is a sure sign that an ingrown nail is beginning to develop. You should seek medical attention to help the issue from worsening by visiting your primary care doctor or a podiatrist.
