People often get ingrown nail surgery when they suffer from chronic ingrown toenails. This is a stubborn where the ingrown nail keeps on coming back. Ingrown toenail surgery involves either partial nail removal or entire nail removal.

Preparation for surgery includes first disinfecting the toe and numb the area with an anesthetic. The doctor might also insert a wedge under the nail to keep the ingrown nail up and elevated. After prepping the toe for surgery, the doctor will then proceed to separate your toenail from the nail bed cutting vertically from the ingrown section to the cuticle of the nail.

If your ingrown is advanced, for example, where both sides of the nail have an ingrown, then your doctor will use a cautery or acidic solution that targets the nail matrix. This will inhibit any nail regrowth from now on. To finish up the procedure the doctor will wrap up the toe to prevent infection and to keep the condition safe. You may also apply petroleum jelly on the area to protect the open wound.
