The best way to decrease your chances of developing an ingrown toenail are to maintain healthy feet by giving them proper care and keeping them clean. Here are some easy tips and habits that you should develop in order to keep your toes healthy and problem free!

  • Constantly checking your toes for fungal infection or abnormalities
  • Cleaning them in warm water
  • Using lotions or creams to keep the skin moisturized (however avoid nooks between your toes as they are supposed to remain dry)
  • Wearing proper shoes (this means the right size, which also provide support and arch for your feet)
  • Rotating shoe wear and always wearing clean socks and shoes
  • Maintaining nail length, and always cutting toenails straight across. You can also smoothen the sides with a nail file
  • Practicing good hygiene by using sandals in public gyms or showers

It is fairly easy to forget about caring for your feet because you hardly notice they are there when you are using them everyday. Just as you wash your hair or brush your teeth everyday, feet need attention too!
